In July of 1999 we studied Spanish in the city of Antigua, Guatemala. Antigua was the old capital of Guatemala before an earthquake destroyed the city and the capital was moved about 40 miles away to Guatemala City. The photo above shows a typical street scene in the central park of Antigua. The photo below is a view of the famous volcano Agua from a typical street in Antigua. All of the streets are cobblestone and a sign ordinance prevents the clutter of business signs hanging over the street. It is a quaint and beautiful city.
